What guitar does Charlie Hunter play?

Charlie Hunter uses a Hybrid Guitars Hybrid 6, a Two-Rock Studio Signature amp, an Ampeg B-15 and Thomastik-Infeld flatwound and roundwound strings. He has said he played a custom Jeff Traugott 7-string through Carr amps and Mesa/Boogie Walkabout bass heads, and a Novax 8-string on his Blue Note records.

What guitar does Charlie Hunter play?

His 2025 Premier Guitar gear list names a Hybrid Guitars Hybrid 6, also called the Big 6. Before that he played a custom 7-string by Jeff Traugott, and in the 1990s an 8-string built by Ralph Novak of Novax.

What amp does Charlie Hunter use?

A Two-Rock Studio Signature for the guitar side and an Ampeg B-15 for the bass side, per his 2025 gear list. In 2016 he used Carr Rambler and Impala amps with Mesa/Boogie Walkabout bass heads.

What strings does Charlie Hunter use?

Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flat Wounds on the bass side and Thomastik-Infeld Pure Nickel Round Wounds on the guitar side. In 2016 he used D'Addario nylon tape wound bass strings with nickel guitar strings.

Does Charlie Hunter use pedals?

Very few. He told Premier Guitar in 2010 and 2016 that he goes straight into the amp, and his 2025 gear list adds only a SurfyBear Compact Deluxe reverb and an Acme Audio Motown DI.
