Bernard Sumner's guitars

Phil Cunningham's rig
“So I started using Vox AC30s, and I’ve grown to love them.”
Recording Waiting for the Sirens' Call
“We had our pick of about six Vox AC30s and an old Fender Princeton.”
Stephen Morris's Baker's Dozen
“It’s like the anti-Transformer; I see it as the antithesis of that record, and I definitely have more love for Paris 1919.”
“It’s still great today; as soon as I put it on and hear those first few bars of ‘See No Evil’, it reminds me of when it first came out and I played it non-stop.”
“A lot of Krautrock was trying to plough its own furrow, but there were other bits that were trying to Germanize Western things.”

“Joy Division used to play Trans-Europe Express before we went on stage, to get us into the zone.”
Records that changed Bernard Sumner's life

“It was really weird, like a 'Road to Damascus' moment.”
“At the time it sounded like nothing you had ever heard before.”
“Another album they played at Pips was Lou Reed's Transformer, which has got a great track on it called 'Vicious.'”
“When we went around to his house to pick up his PA system, he had 'China Girl' playing.”
